Biography

Mezzo-Soprano Chen Stern is a dazzling performer, praised for her rich, velvety tone, technical prowess, and formidable musicianship.

 

Ms. Stern’s operatic repertoire spans from Mozart roles such as Dorabella to bel canto roles such as Adalgisa and Orsini, and also includes French roles such as Nicklausse and Dalilah alongside German roles such as Octavian and Prinz Orlofsky. 

In 2019, Ms. Stern founded Co/Opera - an opera cooperative, meant to bring independent classical vocalists to the forefront. Read more about Co/Opera here

 

Highlights from recent performances include scenes from Norma (Adalgisa) at IVAI Tel Aviv, scenes from Carmen with the Netanya Kibbutz Orchestra (Carmen), and scenes from Hänsel und Gretel (Hänsel) and Die Fledermaus (Orlofsky) at the International Festival of the Aegean. 

 

Ms. Stern has sung under the baton of Zubin Mehta while performing as a soloist with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also worked with the following conductors: Tiberio Soare, Yi-An Xu, Chen Zimbalista, and Grigor Palikarov. 

 

An avid recitalist, Ms. Stern's concert repertoire includes Brahms’ Two Songs for Alto and Viola, selections from Mahler’s Rückert Lieder, Schumann’s Frauenliebe und Leben, selections from Poulenc’s Banalités, Fauré’s Poème d’un Jour, and Joseph Haydn’s cantata a voce solo, Arianna a Naxos.
 

Ms. Stern has been awarded excellence scholarships by the Buchmann-Mehta Academy of Music, as well as by the International Vocal Arts Institute, and by the Azrieli Foundation.
